16/12/2015: back (again) in Dublin after spending a cool few days in Lyon, hosted by my friend Antoine. I was positively surprised as I discovered that city for the first time, and I really liked it. It was, of course, the opportunity for me to visit my childhood friend, but also to meet Otilia, a former colleague from Xerox Romania who happened to be in Lyon at the same time, and to have a delicious dinner with Martine and Isabelle (respectively mother and cousin of my friend Nico T) who also live there.
I love watching a city from a high spot to enjoy a full overview, and in the case of Lyon I was not disappointed as I had a double chance to do so: from its famous basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière on top of a hill reachable via cable car, and from the big wheel located in the city centre, on Bellecour square.
Finally, you cannot talk about Lyon without mentioning its food: I am a big fan of the South-West cuisine, but I must admit that Lyon also surprised me on that side. In its traditional little restaurants called “Bouchons”, you can get some very tasty typical food, usually served with local wines (mainly Beaujolais and Côtes du Rhône).
16/12/2015: de retour (encore) à Dublin après quelques jours très sympas à Lyon, accueilli par Antoine. J’ai été très agréablement surpris en découvrant cette ville pour la première fois. Bien sûr, c’était l’occasion de rendre visite à mon ami d’enfance, mais aussi de rencontrer Otilia, une ancienne collègue de Xerox Roumanie en visite en France qui se trouvait à Lyon en même temps que moi, et de partager un délicieux dîner avec Martine et Isabelle (respectivement mère et cousine de Nico T) qui vivent aussi ici.
Quand c’est possible j’aime voir une ville « d’en haut » afin d’en avoir une vue d’ensemble, et à Lyon j’ai été doublement servi: tout d’abord depuis la célèbre basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière tout en haut d’une colline que l’on peut atteindre grâce à un funiculaire , et depuis la grande roue installée dans le centre, place Bellecour.
Enfin, on ne peut parler de Lyon sans évoquer sa gastronomie: grand amateur de la cuisine du Sud-Ouest, je dois admettre que Lyon m’a aussi surpris avec sa nourriture. Dans ses restaurants traditionnels surnommés « Bouchons », j’ai pu découvrir de délicieux plats typiques, accompagnés de vins locaux (principalement Beaujolais et Côtes-du-Rhône).
